A globe of live air traffic that unrolls into a flat map as you come down, all the way to the runway. Positions are what the aircraft broadcast about themselves \u2014 the same signal air traffic control uses, published openly by volunteer receivers. Military traffic flagged in amber.

Where this comes from

The aircraft tell you

Every aeroplane broadcasts its identity, position, altitude and heading several times a second on 1090 MHz, unencrypted, because that is how collision avoidance works. It is meant to be heard.

A network of volunteers with cheap receivers listens and publishes what it hears.

OpenSky and adsb.lol

Two open networks. OpenSky is a research consortium; adsb.lol additionally flags aircraft on military registers, which is the amber layer here.

Free, no key, no sign-up. Both are volunteer-run, so this site caches their answers rather than asking once per visitor.

Globe to ground

The map starts as a globe and unrolls into a flat one as you come down, so there is one continuous movement from the whole earth to a single taxiway rather than two views with a jump between them.

This is not a tracking system, and the difference matters. Nothing here observes anything: it repeats a signal the aircraft themselves transmit for everyone to hear. Anything that does not want to be seen simply does not transmit, and a great deal does not — the amber layer shows military aircraft that have chosen to broadcast, not ones that were found out. Positions are a few seconds old by the time they reach you, the trail behind a chosen aircraft is only what this page has watched since you opened it, and no part of this knows or asks where you are.

Why this matters here

Older Indian survey and revenue records sit on the Everest spheroid, not WGS 84. Treating one as the other puts everything a few hundred metres out — enough to move a plot boundary onto a neighbour.

Indian systems included

Kalianpur 1880, 1937 and 1975, the India zone grids, UTM zones 42N to 47N on both WGS 84 and Indian datums, and the WGS 84 state systems.

Frequently asked questions

Which coordinate systems are supported?

WGS 84 and Web Mercator, UTM zones 42N to 47N on both WGS 84 and Indian datums, the Kalianpur India zone grids, and the WGS 84 state systems including Maharashtra. Each is listed with its EPSG code so you can check it against your source.

How accurate is the datum shift?

Transformations use the standard seven-parameter shifts published for each datum. Between Everest-based Indian datums and WGS 84 the difference is a few hundred metres, so using the wrong one is immediately obvious on the map preview.

Can I convert a whole list at once?

Yes. Switch to the bulk tab and paste a column. Comma, tab, semicolon or space separated all work, and anything after the first two values is kept as a label. Download the result as CSV.

Which value goes in which box?

Easting or longitude on the left, northing or latitude on the right. The labels change with the system you pick, so you never have to remember. Bulk mode has a swap option.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser using proj4, so no coordinate ever leaves your device.
