Transmission lines coloured by voltage, with the power stations, substations, dams and datacentres they connect - named, labelled with their capacity, and asked live from OpenStreetMap for whatever is on screen. Take the lot away as GeoJSON.

Why not a file

A dataset extracted once holds whatever was mapped on the day it was made. A well-known bundled snapshot of this kind carries fifty-nine dams for the whole of India — a country with several thousand large ones.

That is a sample, not an inventory. Asking as you go gets whatever has been mapped since, including what somebody added last week.

What it will not tell you

Only what has been mapped. An unmapped dam looks exactly like no dam, and rural India is mapped far less completely than its cities. A quarry may be working or abandoned and the tags rarely say.

Treat an empty result as “nobody has added this”, never as “there is nothing here”.

Take it with you

Everything found downloads as GeoJSON with its OpenStreetMap identity attached, so it opens in QGIS and can be joined back to the original features later.

Under the Open Database Licence, which allows commercial use provided the contributors are credited and anything derived stays open.

That licence permits commercial use, requires attribution, and requires that a derived database is shared under the same terms — so if you build on what you download here, credit OpenStreetMap and keep it open. Queries go to the public Overpass service, which runs on donated hardware; the area is capped at roughly two degrees for that reason, and a busy moment there is answered with a wait rather than a failure.

Why this matters here

Older Indian survey and revenue records sit on the Everest spheroid, not WGS 84. Treating one as the other puts everything a few hundred metres out — enough to move a plot boundary onto a neighbour.

Kalianpur 1880, 1937 and 1975, the India zone grids, UTM zones 42N to 47N on both WGS 84 and Indian datums, and the WGS 84 state systems.

Frequently asked questions

Which coordinate systems are supported?

WGS 84 and Web Mercator, UTM zones 42N to 47N on both WGS 84 and Indian datums, the Kalianpur India zone grids, and the WGS 84 state systems including Maharashtra. Each is listed with its EPSG code so you can check it against your source.

How accurate is the datum shift?

Transformations use the standard seven-parameter shifts published for each datum. Between Everest-based Indian datums and WGS 84 the difference is a few hundred metres, so using the wrong one is immediately obvious on the map preview.

Can I convert a whole list at once?

Yes. Switch to the bulk tab and paste a column. Comma, tab, semicolon or space separated all work, and anything after the first two values is kept as a label. Download the result as CSV.

Which value goes in which box?

Easting or longitude on the left, northing or latitude on the right. The labels change with the system you pick, so you never have to remember. Bulk mode has a swap option.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser using proj4, so no coordinate ever leaves your device.
